Gifted and Talented Summer School 2008 Day 5
Learning in a virtual environment and spending £15 million
Today we were looking at how we should teach in the future. To do this the students trialed a new feature of learning at Neale-Wade the Virtual Learning Environment. In this they accessed and then followed directions on the computer and accessed a variety of resources to help them formulate their ideas about the future of teaching at Neale-Wade.
In the afternoon we were fortunate to have Annie Moy and her team of experts from Sharpe Pritchard , the solicitors who are dealing with the Building Schools for the Future contract, and they led the students in a role play about winning contracts. The students took on the role either of bidders or the county council. The bidders had to put together a proposal for a Building Schools for the Future project and the council had to decide how they would evaluate the proposals and then decide between them.

The course you followed in the first part of today’s session was on the new Moodle site, as mentioned above at http://www.nwvle.net/. This is our new Virtual Learning Environment which is accessible from anywhere online. When it is fully setup, students will login with their College usernames and be able to get involved with more interactive elements.
Today’s actual course can be found at http://www.nwvle.net/course/view.php?id=5 – it is accessible to all, so you don’t need to log in.
